Historic Restoration Project

Fields Paint Contracting was proud to participate in the restoration and preservation of the historic James Barclay Place, one of the oldest homes in Tyler County, Texas.

Built in 1842 from hand-hewn pine logs, James Barclay Place is recognized as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and remains an important part of East Texas history. Restoration projects involving historic structures require careful planning, attention to detail, and respect for the original craftsmanship that has allowed these buildings to survive for generations.

For this project, Fields Paint Contracting completed a variety of restoration and finishing services, including interior refinishing, exterior wood restoration, staining, floor refinishing, trim work, and protective finishing. Throughout the project, special care was taken to preserve the historic character of the property while improving its appearance and long-term durability.

The photographs below document various stages of the restoration process, including project conditions before work began, restoration work in progress, and completed results. From wood surface restoration and floor refinishing to exterior preservation and finishing work, every phase of the project was completed with a focus on quality craftsmanship and respect for the building’s historic significance.

With more than 30 years of professional experience, Fields Paint Contracting continues to provide residential painting, commercial painting, wood restoration, historic building restoration, staining, refinishing, and specialty coating services throughout Livingston, Polk County, Tyler County, and the surrounding East Texas area.

We are honored to have contributed to the preservation of this remarkable Texas landmark and proud to include James Barclay Place among our completed restoration projects.
