Historic Building Exterior Painting Project
In Coldspring, Texas, a century-old farmhouse has taken on a new life as a local shop while still retaining the character of its earlier years. According to the project history provided to Fields Paint Contracting, the building dates to around 1924, originally stood in the countryside, and was moved to the Coldspring town-square area in 1978 before being adapted for commercial use.
Fields Paint Contracting was brought in to refresh and protect the building’s exterior while respecting the features that give it its distinctive historic appearance. The project centered on exterior painting rather than a full renovation, with the goal of giving the aging siding, trim, porch, and architectural details a cleaner, more unified finish without erasing the building’s established character.
The structure has the kind of details that reward careful exterior work: horizontal wood siding, a front-facing gable, decorative shingle work, an octagonal upper window, a broad covered porch, contrasting trim, and the weathered textures expected on an older East Texas building. Those elements make color transitions, edges, trim lines, and surface preparation especially noticeable in the finished result.
The photographs below show the building before and during the work, followed by the completed exterior. Together they document the transformation from a tired, weather-exposed exterior into a more polished storefront while keeping the architecture and visual personality of the building intact.
Based in Livingston, Fields Paint Contracting provides residential and commercial painting services throughout East Texas. Projects like this one show how experienced exterior painting can improve appearance, protect exposed surfaces, and help an older building continue serving its community without changing what makes it recognizable.
Before & During Exterior Painting
Before the new finish was complete, the building showed the uneven color, exposed repair areas, weathering, and surface wear that are common on older wood exteriors. These images capture the project as Fields Paint Contracting worked across the siding, trim, porch, and other exterior details. They also show why preparation and careful coverage matter on a structure with this many architectural edges, materials, and transitions.
Completed Exterior Painting
The finished exterior brings the building together with a cleaner, more consistent appearance while leaving its historic character front and center. The green siding, contrasting trim, porch details, storefront windows, and distinctive octagonal gable window now read as one cohesive exterior rather than a collection of weathered surfaces.
The result is not a reinvention of the building. It is a careful exterior refresh that lets the original form, age, and personality remain visible while giving the property a more finished and welcoming presence in Coldspring.
